About The Silk Route
The Silk Route’s Arabian Cabaret takes place on alternate months, bringing you music and dance from the Middle East. A London based event, featuring Belly Dance and associated dance forms, it is now an established platform for both experienced and exciting new talent.
We typically open the night with the school/student showcase ("a show within a show"!) followed by the professionals. Our themed evening often spotlights other genres, bringing a distinctive element to the Silk Route. For example, our past shows have featured Classical Indian to Hungarian Folkloric, revealing the sometimes un-expected connections between Middle Eastern and other dance forms.
In addition to the performances the audience have the chance to dance, let their hair down, put on the coin belts and shimmy to our DJ!! Don't forget a browse in the souk often adds to the overall Silk Route experience!
Friendly, cosy and welcoming, The Silk Route team strives to treat our performers and audiences with utmost professionalism and appreciation. Our grateful thanks to all our dancers and supporters - we hope to see you soon at The Silk Route.

Our Roots
The Silk Route Show was created in 2008 and is organised by Michelle Kelsall-Singleton (Michou) and her team. "For us belly dance is not just entertaining and alluring, at its best, it is an art form of great beauty and as such, we respect its origins and also wish to explore the links that dances of the Middle East have with other disciplines, hence the common threads in our Silk Route shows. Our aim is to bring the "belly dance community" together as well as to introduce this dance to others who may be un-aware of the depth and variety held within "belly dancing".
Originally held in Putney's Star and Garter, we relocated the Silk Route to the famous Bedford in Balham, which also brought the show to a more central location. We have been honoured to have showcased the wonderful talents of: Ozgen, Hossam & Serena Ramzy, Tara, Galit, Shema, Valerie Romanin, Ewa, Anne White, Horus, Razia, Moirai, Helen & Rachel to name just a few. Please see details of our past shows for full listings.
